IIT Madras recently established a strategic relationship with two famous German universities, RWTH Aachen (RWTH) and TU Dresden (TUD), as well as AIT Bangkok and UNU-FLORES, to launch an innovative Joint Master’s Programme (JMP) focused on ‘Water Security and Global Change.’
Prospective candidates are encouraged to enroll in this cutting-edge program IIT Madras offers, as the application window remains open till April 30, 2024. Interested individuals can apply at abcd-centre.org/master-program/ and classes for the first cohort are expected to begin on July 29, 2024.
The program accepts Indian and international students with specific engineering backgrounds. For admission, students must have a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with a significant focus on subjects such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and others listed.
Additionally, applicants must achieve particular criteria, such as a minimum workload of 180 ECTS Points or recognition from authorized higher education institutions. A cumulative grade point average of at least 60% aggregate marks or “first class” is also necessary, as well as English fluency as proven by accepted English test scores.
The program’s fee structure includes Rs 36400 per semester at IIT Madras, Euros 287 per semester at TUD, and Euros 335 per semester at RWTH, for a total of 622 Euros plus Rs 36400 per semester. While medical insurance is included in the IITM costs, students need arrange for their own insurance during their stay in Germany. Accommodation, living, and travel expenses are not covered, however scholarships are available.
Internships and Master’s theses will be undertaken in conjunction with companies, government departments, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The program permits students to move between the three universities, starting their academic year at IIT Madras and spending at least one semester each at TUD and RWTH. Students might also choose to perform their Master’s thesis at their favorite university.
This multidisciplinary program seeks to provide students with the skills they need to address global water security and climate adaptation challenges, while also creating a thorough understanding of these essential topics.
