1. Board exam delays seem to be the talking point for everyone nowadays. Everywhere one goes, there are students and their parents tut tutting about the board exam delays and how they should be scrapped entirely to save the children from the risk of contracting the Corona Virus. So much so, some parents have gone ahead and filed a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the CBSE Board to hold the board exams in July. The Indian education system is organized in such a manner where academic outcomes are the central factor for what the child will do in school. It is highly competitive! And we have not even started on the competitive exams like JEE and others! Owing to the deficient nature of many educational institutes, the competitive nature begins influencing kids as early as they start kindergarten. The pressure of being successful and always be on top of your game has prompted extra pressure, anxiety, and depression leading to suicides.

These days we even have counsellors at various school to help the child overcome the fear he/she has about their academics or peer pressure. This service is even provided for the parents so that it is easier to build a bridge between the parent and the child. It becomes very important for the parent to know what their child is going through especially in the conditions of today. The CBSE board has even made this kind of counselling mandatory since the board exam delay is something that is driving a lot of students towards a lot of stress. The child has no clue whether he/she will be able to take the big leap in the future because of the outcomes taking place in the current situation.

Today it is very important to have a worry-free environment at home, especially for students who are going through board exam delays. The constant pressure from the parent will add on to the stress they already have or are going through. There are a few things you could do as a parent to help your child stay stress-free in such times.

Make sure the breakfast is a healthy affair: Make sure your child has a solid breakfast, as this will direct his/her sugar levels and assist them with keeping up their vitality and focus levels as the day progressed. Abstain from adding extra sugar to the food. Board exam delays do not need to mean heavy eating or jink food ingestion!
Reduce their screen time: You don’t need to take their phones away or hide the tv remote, this will only provoke them to become a rebel. Instead, assign them something or to help you do a chore in the house which would also distract them from board exam delays. This will help make them responsible and they will be away from their screens.
A good amount of sleep: Your child needs an adequate amount of sleep instead of staying up and worrying about board exam delays. A good amount of sleep is an integral part of keeping your child active and alert during the day. It is extremely important for their brains to function at their best.
Work as a team: Make sure that you and your child develop realistic and achievable goals to focus on something else other than board exam delays. Let them decide the task and the timeline in which they want to finish the task. Make sure you ask them to keep the goals realistic and achievable.
A great deal of conversation: Talk to your kids and make them feel wanted. Ask for their opinions even in the smallest matter. This will make them feel wanted and happy about themselves despite the board exam delays. In such times when a child needs to talk to you, make sure you are available for him her. Make sure they know that they can confide in anything they wish to.

While it’s easy to ask your child not to be stressed or to conclude that you will be a steady and supportive parent, it’s hard to not let the serious idea of being at the top of your system get to you. If you engage your child in trouble, you’ll discover that it’s not simply the exams they stress over, they are stressed about letting the families down.

Let them know that they matter. The board exam delays is something one cannot control – but your support is!
