Indians used video conferencing apps for entertainment, education, and social activities, according to a Zoom analysis

During the study, more than 90% of participants accepted that video conferencing helped them deal with loneliness

For the past year, the Covid-affected world has experienced mobility constraints, which has resulted in cases of isolation, mental and emotional distress. According to a recent study of people from various countries, video conferencing has aided them in combating these issues. Zoom and Qualtrics Research collaborated on the study. The research, titled “How Virtual Do We Want Our Future to Be?” collects answers to different questions from 7,689 people in ten countries. Aside from the United States, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, and a few European countries, 1,007 people from India participated in the survey.

According to the study, over 90% of Indians agree that connecting with their peers through video calling and conferencing allows them to feel less lonely. A similar number of people thought that video conferences like these required everyone to participate. Furthermore, 92% of Indians praised virtual and remote experiences for allowing them to feel more associated with others while remaining safe in their own homes. In addition, three out of every four respondents said that these practises helped them improve their mental wellbeing.

The participants were also asked about their thoughts on the post-pandemic environment in the survey. It listed a series of activities and asked whether the participants wanted to participate in them in person, virtually, or a combination of both. Company, health visits, and education were among the activities. For all of these activities, Indians mostly gave the same responses, with just over 10% of respondents saying they would continue to do so just practically after the pandemic.

The majority were prepared to continue their activities through a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. Other activities, such as entertainment and festivals, received the same response. Only for holidays did the majority of respondents want in-person meetings. While responses varied from one question to the next and from one area to the next, the general opinion remained consistent. People are ready to use virtual connections in the future for several of those things that involved stepping out. Furthermore, 46% of Zoom study participants believed that schooling must include both in-person and virtual elements, ushering in a new wave of blended learning. Even the financial sector seems to have switched to the hybrid model, with 56 percent of respondents benefiting from new financial services not available in person.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zoom COO Aparna Bawa says the video conferencing platform was adopted by more than 100,000 schools in 25 countries. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, India’s online education sector was growing at a healthy pace, but the virus accelerated its growth at an unprecedented rate.
With students and educators confined to their homes, Zoom, a video conferencing network headquartered in the United States, stepped up its game to help schools and institutes keep running smoothly via its ‘Zoom for Education’ initiative. At a press conference last week, the company also revealed its plans to open a new technology centre in Bengaluru, which will serve as its new innovation hub, as well as to recruit heavily in India in the coming years.
