Cancellation of Class 12 Board Exam in 2021: The final decision is expected on THIS date

On Monday, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will meet with nearly every state education secretary. He’ll almost certainly make a decision about the CBSE class 12 board exams

Even as calls for the CBSE Class 12 Board exams to be scrapped gain traction, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is set to hold a crucial meeting on the subject on May 17. After meeting with education secretaries from all states on Monday, May 17, Pokhriyal is expected to make a final decision on whether or not the class 12 boards exams should be held. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education sector will be discussed during the virtual conference. The minister would also talk about how to promote online education and how to put the New Education Policy into action (NEP).

The meeting’s top priority will be the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on education, as well as the promotion of online education, the introduction of the New Education Policy, and state preparations, according to education ministry sources. The Education Ministry cancelled the Class 10 CBSE board exam and postponed the CBSE board exam for Class 12 last month, both of which were scheduled to begin on May 4, 2021, due to an increase in coronavirus cases. The Ministry of Education and the CBSE had previously dismissed claims that the board was preparing to abolish or cancel the class 12 board exams. “Discussions on the topic are still ongoing. As some parts of the media have suggested, no such decision has been made about CBSE class 12 exams. A Ministry official said, “Any decision made in this matter will be officially communicated to the public.”

A CBSE official also dismissed the claims, stating that any decision made in this matter (cancellation of class 12 exams) would be made public. Several states began partially reopening schools in October of last year, but physical education classes were again suspended due to an increase in coronavirus cases. The board exams had to be postponed in the middle of March last year. They were later cancelled, and the results were declared using a different scoring system. The official was responding to a query about the possibility of class 12 board exams being cancelled in response to demands from a group of students and parents concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The board had declared on April 14 that class 10 exams would be cancelled and class 12 exams would be postponed due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting that made the announcement. The tests, which are normally held in February and March each year, were rescheduled to begin on May 4.

The CBSE revealed the marking strategy for class 10 board exams earlier this month. Although 20 marks for each subject will be used for internal evaluation as they are every year, 80 marks will be measured based on the students’ success in various tests or exams during the year, according to the policy. According to data updated on Friday by the Union Health Ministry, India’s COVID-19 count of cases rose to 2,40,46,809, while the death toll rose to 2,62,317, with 4,000 new fatalities.
