Study Abroad Dreams Remain a Priority for South Asian Students

Is it your dream to study abroad? And have those dreams recently hit a roadblock called uncertainty due to the spread of the deadly COVID 19 virus? Well, then this research should show you what is truly going on in the hearts and minds of students from the South Asian region.

To begin with, the study and research by The Pie News shows that less than 2% of the students who had set their sights on study abroad have dropped their plans entirely. That means a whopping 98% of these students from this region, still plan to go ahead with their plans to study abroad. A Yocket survey conducted on the same subject also shows that over 1500 students are still planning to apply to colleges all over the world.

Yet, there have been a few changes in people’s aspirations following the suspension of the H1B visa as well as impediments in the student visa for USA. This has made a lot of tech students look towards like Canada for their academic needs and for ease of entry. Also, with the suspension of the H1B visa, a lot of students looking to study abroad have scrapped their plans to study and eventually work in the US. This is due to the fact that the suspension of this work based visa would make it difficult for them to find and apply for a job that can help them remain in the US after their studies.

There are a number of other countries that have also emerged as clear winners in the middle of the crisis. Due to its expert handling of the COVID 19 situation, New Zealand has now emerged as the top choice for many students who want to study abroad. Further, as a matter of policy, it is easier for students to find a job and remain in NZ after their studies are over. This makes it a far more lucrative deal as compared to other countries.

Apart from this, Ireland has also recently emerged as one of the top options due to the fact that it has managed to incubate many well known businesses with its campus culture of innovation and research. This is something that also helps many tech students greatly plus it even connects them to the rest of Europe where the next silicon valley is most definitely emerging in countries like Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and others.

Finally, studying abroad may at max have been replaced by studying online. Countries like India are still grappling with the whole sphere of EdTech to help students study abroad while there are also reports of Indian tech students looking at domestic entrance exams for engineering and other fields that can help them stay on in India and complete their studies here before they begin eyeing other nations for better job prospects.

So, as we can see, the study abroad crowd stands undefeated in its dreams and continues to dream on for international degrees and destinations! If research is to be believed, many of them even have hopes that a vaccine and medicine for the virus will help them resume their normal lives. Watch this space for more.
