Tomorrow, the Minister of Education will consult with Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will meet virtually today with all Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities to discuss online education in the context of COVID-19

The Minister of Education will meet with the Vice Chancellors of Central Universities: The meeting between Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and the Vice-Chancellors of the Central Universities that was supposed to take place today has been postponed. In the midst of the COVID-19 situation in the country, the Minister was scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss the online education system. The Minister was also required to speak about the New National Education Education Policy 2020’s preparation and implementation. In the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, this was the first virtual meeting between the Education Minister and state education secretaries.

Though there is no official announcement regarding this, it is speculated that the education minister will also be discussing the conduction of the upcoming CBSE Class 12 board exams in 2021 amid the current pandemic situation across the country. The Central Board of Secondary Education has been flooded with requests to cancel the upcoming board exams keeping in mind the safety of the students during the second wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Though students and parents across the country are urging the central government to cancel the CBSE Class 12 board exams, no final decision regarding this has been taken yet. The final dates of the board exams are expected to be announced soon. CBSE recently said, “It is clarified that no such decision (cancellation of exams) has been taken regarding class 12 board examinations, as being speculated. Any decision taken in this matter will be officially communicated to the public.”

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank met virtually with all state education secretaries earlier today. The promotion of online education, adoption of the New Education Policy, and state readiness plans were all on the agenda for today’s meeting. Today’s virtual meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m., with any updates coming later in the day. After the outcomes of these two meetings, which will be chaired by the Education Minister, students should have more information on exams, online classes, and other topics.
These include the expansion of DIKSHA under PM eVIDYA, DTH TV channels under the SWAYAM PRABHA TV channel bouquet, online NISHTHA training for DIKSHA teachers, and the introduction of Manodarpan to meet the socio-emotional and psychological needs of students, among others.  Several efforts have also been made to reach out to children who do not have access to digital education. He also emphasised the importance of involving different stakeholders in the National Education Policy 2020’s implementation.During the pandemic, both states and UTs expressed their plans for continuing the learning process. According to reports, the majority of the children have obtained textbooks, and the states have also prepared various supplementary graded content. Haryana and Gujarat exchanged information about the state’s evaluation, which is taking place when schools are closed.

Many states, including Jharkhand, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have developed digital learning apps. All of the states and UTs have emphasised the importance of parents and communities. States and UTs also shared information on how to facilitate online learning through digital devices, Doordarshan, and radio, among other methods.
