With rigorous immigration rules under the Donald Trump regime, Canada’s fast track citizenship and students incentives fascinate a huge tribe of Indian technology students to choose Canadian universities rather than study abroad US. Indian students are gradually getting over the infatuation with study abroad US. Not only are they steadily moving northwards to Canada, but they are also favouring other countries. Yet, for Indian tech students, Canada is the next best option after US. The factors that are a major reason for this perpetual decline are the restrictive student immigration and the international student policies under the current US government. The US government has made it difficult for Indian tech students to obtain green cards in a hurry, which is busy shifting the crowd to shoot their shot for Canada’s computer science and engineering courses. The number of Indian graduates enrolling themselves in American universities has declined by a whooping 25% – and that’s only the past two years! Plus, given the climate of studying online with a number of free courses being offered by even the most prestigious universities, do Indian tech students really want to go through the rigmarole of applying for that precious student or F1 visa for the US of A? We think not!
America’s Loss:
American universities have been a preference for more than half of the international students, especially the Indian tech students, for the past 30 years now. According to the US economy reports, international students and their families contribute approximately 41 billion dollars to the US economy. Moreover, the graduates act as a source of assistance to the professors while conducting researches and studies. Without being able to perform, researchers and a high level of leading professors would grab other employment options, which would unwittingly weaken the American economy as a universal centre of science. The US government is losing out on competent Indian tech students who want to study abroad in USA because of unreasonable policies and agreements.
Canada’s Gain:
According to the national foundation of American policy, the number of Indian students getting enrolled in Canadian universities has doubled in the last two academic years. Unlike Americas strict policies, Canadian immigration and student policies sound q’uite desirable to learners who wish to study abroad US. Students from all over the world including South East Asian nations like Vietnam, China, Philippines and India are getting themselves enrolled in Canadian universities and are getting admissions, as long as they pass the basic English tests like IELTS and have monetary stability and confidence. The US also has suspended immigration of international students amidst the COVID 19 breakdown and is re-examining optional practical training . Canada does not seem to award any kind of change to its admission norms despite the COVID 19 situation. This gives Canadian universities a plus point and adds to their economy as well. Students with the right permits in Canada have been expected to travel depending on positive health checks and isolation procedures.
Students, as well as professionals, flock to Canada due to the restrictions imposed by the US government on immigration and green cards. Canada’s more friendly immigration attitude attracts a huge tribe of Indian techies and aspiring professionals. Canada largely benefits from the shift of students from US universities to Canadian universities, largely because of the challenges regarding renewing visas and obtaining permanent residency. Canada allows its residents to apply for citizenship after a small lapse of six years.
Comparatively, the cost of living also acts as a huge incentive. USA does offer a lot of opportunities for aspiring Indian tech students but the cost of living weakens the financial strength of many pupils, and thus Canada becomes a great option for attaining education and making a good living!
