In UP, over 2,000 private schools will offer free education to children whose parents died of COVID

Anil Agarwal, President of the UP Unaided Private Schools’ Association (UPSA), said the decision was reached after an online meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma

In UP, more than 2,000 private schools have agreed to offer free education to children whose parents have died as a result of Covid-19. Anil Agarwal, President of the Uttar Pradesh Unaided Private Schools’ Association (UPSA), said the decision was reached after an online meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma. “We also collectively agreed that no money would be taken from children whose parents have resorted to Covid at any of the association’s private schools. He added, “We will also provide stationery and uniform to such students.”

Agarwal stated that children who have lost the family’s sole earner, whether it is the father or mother, would receive a 50% fee reduction, as well as stationery and uniform. “The entire educational community has banded together to help such children,” he added. Last week, St. Joseph College in Lucknow became the first to put the decision into action, announcing free education for Covid orphans.

Private schools have not only waived the fines, but have also waived the costs of books, school uniforms, and transportation for such students, setting a precedent for other states. The UP government had previously requested private schools not to raise tuition for the current school year. “Uttar Pradesh is the first state to start online education,” said Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma. He also contributes recommendations for the advancement of students in Classes 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Following Madhya Pradesh’s lead, several other states, including Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Odisha, and Gujarat, have agreed to provide financial assistance to orphaned students as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Other relief initiatives for Covid-19-affected families have been declared as well. Sonia Gandhi, a Congress leader, recently wrote Prime Minister Narendra Modi a letter requesting that he urge the central government to provide free education to students who have lost their parents as a result of the pandemic that has swept the country.
